In response to the increasing concerns about the environmental impact of concerts and touring, the band Massive Attack has committed to reducing their carbon footprint.
This past weekend, the band held a “mini-festival” of sorts in their hometown of Bristol, here’s some of the policies they implemented to minimise the event’s carbon emissions:
1. Public transport
Attendees were encouraged to use public transport, walk, or cycle to the venue, as there was no on-site parking available. Special trains and shuttle buses were arranged for those attending the event.
2. Waste reduction
In addition to all-vegan menus, attendees were encouraged to bring empty water bottles. Reusable cups were also provided for drinks, and items such as loose glitter and disposable vapes were prohibited.
3. Clean energy
The event utilised clean energy sources, with batteries being charged by electric vans circling the event powering its operations. When generators were necessary, they ran exclusively on biofuel.
This is exactly the approach we love to see here at Sustainability Suite and we strongly encourage everyone to seek out similar opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in their respective industries.
